Summary

Salina is neither as developed for tourists as Vulcano or Lipari nor as fashionable (expensive) as Panarea, but boasts some unique properties like Villa Salina.

Villa Salina is superbly positioned 50m above the sea. Set amidst swathes of luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation, its splendid terraces offer breathtaking views of Sicily, Lipari, Panarea and the spectacular nocturnal eruptions of Stromboli which are visible from any terraces of the Villa at night.

The Villa is as ideal as a romantic hideaway and the perfect place to relax, enjoy the view, take undisturbed siestas and stay up late under the starlight to listen to the silence. The Villa has been completed refurbished in 2000. It also features high vaulted ceilings and priceless handmade Vietri-patterned floor tiles.

Property Details

The Villa consists of a Kitchen, one bedroom, one bathrooms and a terrace on the first floor. On the second floor, there are two bedrooms, a bathroom and an  additional wonderful terrace. The ground floor accommodate a cellar which due to the thickness of its lava walls, and so the rest of the house, remains cool even on the hottest summer days.

The splendid terraces are simply but comfortably furnished with dining tables and are shaded by bamboo canopies. The terraces are completed with chairs and loungers and are surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation.

The Villa comes with a Dependence, ideal for guest. Located in the garden, the life in the guest house revolves around the large spacious terrace, covered by a bamboo canopy, with a large dining table and a hammock. A part of the terrace has been converted into an outdoor kitchen. There are also two bedrooms together with a bathroom. A few steps lead down from the patio to the lush garden (lemon trees, cactus, prickly pears, oleanders, and bougainvillea), where the view of the sea and the eruptions of Stromboli are at their best.

The Villa is only a few steps away from the town centre of Salina Island. A short walk along a picturesque footpath of olive trees takes you to the nearby beautiful dip blue sea and quite beaches.

Area Details

The Aeolian Islands are a group of seven volcanic islands just 45 minutes by hydrofoil from Milazzo and 1 hour 15 minutes from Messina, offering a different and slightly mysterious world from that of mainland Sicily.  The island architecture is quite unique with houses built from the local lava and pumice stone and mainly painted white. Only Lipari and Salina permit cars from outside and the smaller islands offer the rare experience today of an almost vehicle-free environment. Communication between the islands is good and visitors have a choice of hyfrofoils or more leisurely car ferries. The second largest island and also the highest is Salina. With its twin peaks it is surprisingly green and fertile. It is here that the grapes for the famous dessert wine malvasia are grown along with capers and olives. The island, consisting of three small towns, is quiet and relaxing.
