Summary

As you wind up the road in a struggling car, gazing over layer upon layer of vineyards hills, it seems astonishing that there should be anything at all at the top. And yet there, on a knoll, stands a monumental town of Panzano in Chianti with its castle, Castle of Panzano.

The years between the middle of the 11th century and the early decades of the 12th century saw the highest rate of construction of such fortifications, one of which was the Castle of Panzano.

Today the castle still stand around the entire perimeter of the fort and two of the original corner towers still stand. One serves as the bell tower for the parish church. The other, more imposing, is a private home.

Property Details

The apartment, an indulgent one-bedroom love-nest of 90 m2, is perfectly enclosed within massive medieval walls. Inside, it's simple chic: white walls, earthenware tile, a sprinkling of fine furniture.

It consists of a comfortable kitchen, a bathroom with shower/tub and a large bedroom. The large living room, with its two romantic Romeo and Juliet balconies big enough to enjoy candlelight dinners, represent the centre focus of this sumptuous apartment.

Stunning view over a jumble of red roves cut by the Pesa valley and the Conca d'Oro or the valley of the golden mussel can be enjoyed from many angles of the apartment. It’s a grand feeling, being right in the centre of Panzano town, yet a world away from the hubbub..

Area Details

I’ve not met anyone who’s been to Panzano in Chianti and been unimpressed. The little town of Panzano with Etruscan origins is situated on the Chiantigiana road, between Castellina and Greve. Panzano is a lovely little village with all facilities, a market on sunday and forms an excellent base from where to explore the many stunning little medieval villages between Siena and Florence.

Panzano in Chianti is surrounded by many medieval Tuscan villages and the famous vineyards of Chianti Classico. Easy drives and day trips to Lucca, Pisa, Arezzo, Assissi. Firenze and Siena are respectively 35 km away.
